Labelled one of Travel Manitoba’s Top 5 charming towns, Souris is well known as a tourism community – we have a lot to offer. Victoria Park is an outdoor oasis that spreads over 20-acres. It provides an abundance of things to enjoy, including a pool and campground, playground and picnic area, Old Oak Tree and Looking Tower. The Bowl is a natural amphitheatre that hosts Canada Day festivities, sporting events, summer music events and winter tobogganing.

Souris is home to a Manitoba Star Attraction – the Souris Swinging Bridge. It is Canada’s longest swinging suspension bridge measuring 604 feet long, and attracts thousands of tourists each year. Located close to the Souris Swinging Bridge is where you will find our unique museums, including one of Canada’s most important heritage properties. The Hillcrest Museum, Railway Museum & Diesel Engine Simulator, The Plum Heritage Museum & Tourist Centre allow you to step back in time and learn the history of Souris through personal tours available by appointment.

Our Manitoba Star Attraction is the Swinging Bridge Our Manitoba Star Attraction is the Swinging Bridge first built in 1904 to connect property of both sides of the river. To walk its 604 foot length is an amazing experience summer or winter. Try to catch it at sunrise – beautiful! Located just a half block to the east of our boutique hotel!

Outdoor Heated Pool – with beach-like entry, 4 slides and a lazy river is located in Victoria Park Campground just an easy 3 block walk from The Guest Room. Call 204-483-5212 to get the public swim times – usually afternoons and evenings in July and August.

Victoria Park – is located a short walk down First St. S.  Enjoy 50 acres of natural beauty with six kilometres of walking trails where you can view the over 600 year “Old Oak Tree” and get a panoramic view of the town, park and surrounding agricultural landscape from the lookout tower located at the top of the sandhills.  Victoria Park is one of the top five spots in Manitoba for dining al fresco with  facilities for picnicking, camping and of course the pool.  The beautiful Plum Creek flows into the Souris River in the park proving opportunity for fishing, canoeing and kayaking.  Our bird sanctuary, located in the centre of the park,  is home to many different birds and our gorgeous town ambassadors – the peacocks!  

 

Elks Playground is located in Victoria Park near the boat dock and features swings, a new climbing structure, baby swings and merry-go-round. Modern washroom facilities are located nearby.

Hillcrest Museum – located a block east of the Guest Room, the unique `prairie castle’ Sowden House stands as a testament to the optimism and ambition of the pioneering families arriving in southwestern Manitoba around the turn of the twentieth century.  Just in back of the Guest Room you will find The Plum 1883 Heritage Church building and the Railway Museum where you can book an appointment (204-483-3361) to drive one of Canada’s only diesel engine simulator modules.  And be sure to check out the 1200 lb Town Bell, and some of our Historic Architecture, Monuments and Memorials.

The Historic Avalon Theatre  – located a half block north is truly a community treasure.  Where else would you find a dedicated bunch of volunteers who not only saw the restoration of the building but sell the tickets and make the popcorn for the movie nights?  See what’s playing here or go old school and check out the billboard on the building!  You might even get lucky and catch some live theatre or music.

Souris-Glenwood Community Golf Course is perfect for golfers that want to enjoy one of Manitoba’s finest 9-hole golf courses.  Located about a five-minute drive away south on highway 22.

Anytime Fitness Center is located only 3 minutes away at 157 First Ave West.
